South Coast Terminals - User Story
South Coast Terminals has been using Harvest Software’s Process Manufacturing System since 1987.
In 1996, South Coast upgraded their Mini Computer Systems to Microsoft Windows. South Coast areas
of business are in lubricant manufacturing and packaging,
chemical packaging in drums and totes, and bulk terminalling and storage of chemicals from their many tanks.
South Coast has three plants located in the Houston area. The main plant provides lubricant manufacturing and
packaging for their own product lines and contract services for some of the largest lubricant and chemical
manufacturers in the United States. A second facility, located on the Houston Ship Channel, provides bulk
terminalling services on a contract basis by both rail car and tanker ship. A third location provides hazardous
chemical drumming by tank truck and rail car.
South Coast’s customers are large chemical companies and South Coast must provide accurate inventory
reconciliations to their customers. In working with South Coast, Harvest has developed a comprehensive
integrated inventory system to track each customer’s inventory by product, lot number and warehouse location.
By tracking inventory by location and lot number, South Coast is able to ship the oldest product first to minimize
dead and slow moving product. The Bulk Terminalling operation tracks inventory by tank and railcar.
South Coast can provide detailed inventory reports showing customer receipts and shipments by tank and
railcar for a specific product.
All three plants log in to Harvest Software’s Process Manufacturing System directly or through Citrix or Microsoft
Terminal Services. Their system includes Accounting, Blending, Packaging, Purchase Order, Sales Order,
Special Billing Programs and a comprehensive Inventory System.
